APC UPS Red Light Inverter Fault

The APC Smart UPS range has been the most commonly selected choice of UPS for IT managers for many years. For good reason, the UPS will often operate without fault continuously for so long that owners may even forget it is installed. Unfortunately, when users forget, trust and leave the UPS without replacement batteries, servicing or a UPS health check the APC Inverter Fault light may suddenly appear.

This is also known as the APC red light of death and usually results in loss of output and power to the connected load equipment.

In this situation the battery level lights will illuminate in such a manner to display a code so that that the exact kind and cause of the inverter fault will be apparent APC, however this information is useless to a user as a repair to this inverter fault requires board level component repair or internal PCB replacement.

In order to get the load powered and protected again the UPS must be bypassed or replaced while the faulty UPS is diagnosed and repaired in a laboratory environment.
